“The gun made a ripping sound like the opening of the zipper on the fly of God Almighty”.

What a line.

I felt I couldn’t do justice to the book, either by writing a book review or short notes (OK, I’m feeling lazy at this point). Besides, I thought the Wikipedia entry gives a very, very nice coverage of the book as well as an analysis.

Oh, read the book for the introduction too. Vonnegut explains how he’d wanted to write a book about War but was chastised (by his friend’s wife) for trying to glorify it. Which he then writes: “She was my friend after that”.

Here’s a link to my earlier Vonnegut posts. See also my earlier post at RamblingLibrarian: Goodbye, Mr. Kurt Vonnegut (1922 – 2007)
