NLB Call No.: VON – [SH] (under Fiction collection)

Collection of Kurt Vonnegut’s short stories (25 stories in all), written from 1950 and 1968. The title of this book comes from one of the short story of the same title as well. I didn’t realise I read “Welcome to the Monkey House” (the short story) before. It’s a story set in the future, where people were encouraged to euthanise themselves in places called Ethical Suicide Parlors; where citizens were required to practice birth-control not by taking contraceptives or other permanent measures, but by taking a drug that made them feel numb from the waist downwards. The story was about this person called Billy the Poet, who went around capturing Hostesses of Suicide Parlors, and reading poetry to them before ravishing them. Well, the story is alot more complex than that. : )

Kurt Vonnegut is one of my favourite authors, maybe because I like the wry and subtle humour he has in his writing. Heck, even the preface of his book is written in a subtle and wry manner.
